Ute Rathmann is a figurative illustrator born in 1975 in North Germany. She studied art in Berlin and currently teaches at the School of Art and Design Berlin Weissensee. Her work explores the human body and its relationship to clothes, costumes, fashion and fabrics, drawing deep influence from the bizarre shapes and colours of vintage clothing.
Her process is never ending, with old drawings torn apart and reassembled into new canvases on which she continues to draw. The resulting works read as frozen moments within an ongoing inquiry into the human form and nature. Ute lives and works in Berlin.
