Decal Install Instructions
Getting Started: Prep Your Walls
The secret to a smooth decal install is all in the prep. Make sure your walls are clean, dry, and in solid condition before applying.
Do a Test First (Just in Case)
Not all wall surfaces are created equal. If you're unsure, test a small piece of decal in a hidden spot first. Leave it on for a few days to check how it sticks. This can help you catch any issues with paint quality or adhesion early.
Paint Matters
For best results, decals should be applied to well-prepared walls. That means a coat of primer followed by two coats of good-quality paint. Smooth surfaces are ideal.
Even if your walls look freshly painted, they might not have been properly sealed. Often, peeling happens when the top coat hasn’t bonded well due to lack of priming or improper prep.
Fresh Paint? Hold Off
If you've recently painted, allow at least 4 weeks before installing decals. This gives the paint time to fully cure and release any trapped gases, which helps your decals stick better and stay put.
Concerned About Removal?
Our decals are removable. If needed, use a hairdryer to gently heat the area before peeling. This softens the adhesive and helps lift the decal with less stress on your paint. For more, see our Removal Tips.
Steps to Apply Your Decals
-
Wash your hands
-
Wipe your wall with a damp microfiber cloth to remove dust
-
Let the wall dry completely
Then:
-
Unroll your decal sheet
-
Peel off the decal carefully
-
Place it on the wall and smooth it out by hand
-
Use a felt-edge tool or wrap a card in a microfiber cloth to apply even pressure from top to bottom
Installing Larger Decals
For bigger pieces, overlap by about 1cm to align patterns neatly. A slight rotation may help match the design. Take your time to get a seamless result.
Need to Reposition?
No problem. Our decals can be adjusted. Just clean your hands and wall again before reapplying.
Good to Know
-
The decals are opaque, making them ideal for coloured walls
-
They’re great for layering and building custom scenes
-
Save the backing sheet if you plan to move or store them in the future
- Make a mistake? Accidentally stick the decal together? Don't stress. Our high quality decals are made to accidentally scrunch up, stick together and unravel seamlessley without leaving any marks.
Safety First
Make sure decals are pressed down firmly, especially if they’re placed near beds or cribs. Check them regularly. If any part starts to lift, remove it straight away.
Important Note
While our decals are designed to come off cleanly, we can't promise zero paint damage every time. The final result depends on your paint, surface, and how the decal is removed. Follow our instructions for the best outcome.
